"if you give from the heart?" no corny explanation, or violins, and believe me I'm no naive liberal do gooder....A friend ask me about all the volunteer work I do and why ? the first time I did volunteer work was at a food pantry, and the only reason I did it, was it would look good on my college resume. I admit that now and I look back at how much I have changed, I was a different person. My junior year in high school, I began volunteering, at our inner city food pantry. Little did I know, the change that would take place in myself. My first day I was cussed-out by a homeless man. He was upset that the pantry did not have any canned peaches. He was a regular at the pantry, he would, only ask for a can of peaches. His street name was vietnam dave. he came in the pantry for about a year, then suddenly he was gone. During that year, I always made sure we had a can of peaches for him. Several times I would buy cans, to make sure we had them. He even remarked once I was the good-luck peach man. I guess you can say for a year, I gave a can peaches to a homeless man. And he gave me a part of my soul.
